Case Competitions

Case competitions give students the opportunity to apply classroom learning to fast-moving, real-world business challenges while sharpening the skills that matter most in internships and careers: strategic thinking, teamwork, public speaking, and professional confidence. Our office has supported students in these experiences by sharing opportunities, helping teams prepare, connecting students with faculty and other mentors for feedback, and providing funding support that helps students travel and participate when they are selected.

Yearly Case Competition Opportunities

Global Business Programs encourages students to explore recurring case competitions that challenge them to solve complex business and sustainability problems with practical, high-impact recommendations.

2025 Case Competition Spotlight

UConn at the BU Questrom $50K Sustainability Case Competition

UConn team at BU Questrom Sustainability Case Competition

In 2025, a UConn team competed in the BU Questrom $50K Sustainability Case Competition with a case focused on bitcoin, sustainability, and OpenKey. The team explored a timely challenge at the intersection of emerging technology and environmental responsibility, developing a recommendation that required both strategic business thinking and a strong understanding of sustainability tradeoffs. Our team placed runner up in a competition pool of over 80 teams and 500 students from across the globe!

What made this competition meaningful: The Questrom format asks students to solve a real-world sustainability problem, present clearly under pressure, and refine their thinking as the case evolves through multiple rounds. That kind of environment pushes students to think quickly, collaborate effectively, and communicate with confidence.
How our office supported participation: Our office helped students take part by providing financial support and by connecting teams to resources and guidance as they prepared. That support helped make participation more accessible while also giving students a stronger foundation as they developed their case strategy.
Why this spotlight matters: Experiences like this show how UConn students can step into challenging, nationally visible competitions and bring thoughtful, globally minded ideas to complex business issues.
