Serving the Business Community

As our guiding principle states, our goal is to develop unique and impactful programs with an interdisciplinary focus, culture, and technology that reach a wide and diverse audience. In order to achieve this goal, part of UConn CIBER’s mission is outreach to the business community on a local, regional, national and international level to enable them to enhance their leadership positions in today’s global economy. These programs are created to:

  • Enhance the business community’s expertise in managing in the context of environmental shifts and sustainability concerns, especially as it relates to manufacturing
  • Update the knowledge of cultural issues in negotiating with non-U.S. companies
  • Provide the business community the tools to continue restructuring and refocusing their strategies with respect to global markets through manufactured products

Export Documentation Basics Conference: November 15th, 2017

On November 15th at Manchester Community College, MCC, UConn CIBER, FedEx, the US Department of Commerce, and Connecticut District Export Council congregated to host a seminar on Export Documentation Basics. The seminar was designed to help Connecticut firms learn how prepare, process, and navigate export documentation by focusing on the principal documents required for export shipments. Additionally, attendees learned about common problems with preparation and processing of export documents, mechanics of the export process, navigation of, and the transition from Automated Export Systems (AES) to Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).

Connecticut STEP Grant Program: Applications accepted through August 30, 2017

The Connecticut State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant aims to provide finding to eligible small businesses for participation in export opportunities. The program goal is to aid companies in expanding their export initiatives and to increase eligible Connecticut companies’ export sales by spurring participation in export opportunities.

Applications for reimbursement are now being accepted online for the Connecticut General Assistance Fund (GAF) program. GAF FY ’16 allows companies to request reimbursement for various eligible activities including trade shows, trade missions, marketing and internationalization, U.S. Department of Commerce services (Gold Key, International Partner Search, International Company Profile), export training opportunities, and export B2B matchmaking.

Separate applications will also be accepted for targeted participation in Connecticut sponsored booths at the following tradeshows: Medica 2016Hannover Messe 2017 and the Paris Air Show 2017.

Please visit the CT STEP Grant website at to access the FY ’16 Application Portal. Applications will need to be submitted for approval, prior to any proposed export activity and no later than August 30, 2017.

All approved export activities must be completed prior to September 29, 2017. Final reimbursement requests must be submitted back to the Department of Economic and Community Development for processing within two (2) weeks of a completed activity and no later than October 13, 2017.
