Global Business Programs has created these programs in partnership with the Connecticut District Export Council to promote knowledge about exporting to students who may wish to have this additional skill for their résumés and potential internships. In a global economy, knowledge of exporting logistics and compliance is crucial for businesses of all sizes, as 95% of all consumers live outside the U.S. Completing one or more of these tracks will help prepare students to assist an SME (Small to Medium size Enterprise) to begin or expand their exporting capabilities.
The program is open to any UConn student. To participate, please email global.business@uconn.edu. Once you have contacted Global Business Programs, you may begin any of the tracks listed below. “How to Complete the Program” provides the necessary steps. Please allow 2-3 weeks for Global Business Programs staff to confirm your completion.

The Export Basics Certificate is suitable for beginners seeking an overview of exporting before defining a more specific knowledge base with the other Export Certificates.
The Export Logistics Certificate This certificate builds on the skills developed through Export Basics. It examines market intelligence, costing and pricing structures, techniques for approaching the market, and export documentation.
The Market Intelligence Certificate is suitable for gaining more specific knowledge of how to enter international markets.
Export Compliance I introduces specific topics in Export Compliance, including BIS, OFAC, Cybersecurity IT, etc. It explores special considerations for exporting to China, export controls at trade shows, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and more. Knowledge in export compliance is increasingly in demand as companies navigate the complicated rules and laws. Most companies have to train their compliance officers from the ground up, so a student who has experience in this area will be an attractive intern and have an advantage over peers who have no export knowledge.
Export Compliance II includes an advanced exploration of export compliance. It builds on the skills introduced in Export Compliance Certificate I, as well as provides guidance regarding destination control statements, site visits, and export controls in the cloud.
