The UConn School of Business CIBER, Department of Management, and the International Business Association have created this program in partnership with the Connecticut District Export Council to promote knowledge about exporting to students who may wish to have this additional skill for their resumes and potential internships. In a global economy, knowledge of exporting logistics and compliance is crucial for businesses of all sizes, as 95% of all consumers live outside the U.S. Achieving this certificate will help prepare students to assist an SME (Small to Medium size Enterprise) to either begin or expand their exporting capabilities. The Export Logistics Certificate may be earned in addition to the Export Compliance certificate.
Each certificate program has three required components for successful completion:
1) Attend the Kick-off program Friday, October 12, 1:00-2:30 in BUSN 211. Program includes a panel of experts and the screening of the FBI produced movie, “Made in America”.
Panel includes:
Anthony Sargis – U.S. Commerce
Jose Abrantes – Export Compliance Officer for OFS
Samuel Chaney – FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage
Jenny Norris – Meridian Financial Group and Exim Bank
The FBI movie tells the story of the formation of a powerful partnership between the FBI, a U.S. manufacturing company, and an informant willing to serve against a nuclear proliferation network. “Made in America” is based on a real investigation involving an Iranian proliferation network; however, the lessons learned are country agnostic and the “red flags” highlighted apply to all countries whose proliferation of exported, dual-use technologies could cause harm to our Nation’s security
2) View the following seven webinars listed below. You must complete a quiz for each viewed webinar. The webinars will be available on ExportU. (Link Here). After watching a chosen webinar, please click on the links below to take the corresponding quiz via Qualtrics. Students can complete these at their own pace, so long as this requirement is satisfied by the end of the spring semester.
Webinar choices are:
- Market Intelligence (watch both parts)
- More Intelligence
- Costing and Pricing
- Approaching the Market
- Payment Terms
- SBA Export Financing
- Risk Management
3) Award Ceremony in March. (Date/Location TBA mid-Sept)
The program runs from October to March of the academic year. To participate, you must attend the kickoff event – Export Professional Panel & FBI movie showing – on Friday, October 12, 2018. If you have questions about this program, please contact the Global Business Programs Office at CIBER.business@uconn.edu.
